While We Celebrate The Victory Of Democracy, We Commemorate Our Martyrs Of July 15 With Respect. #1507mfa

Wellington Büyükelçiliği 15.07.2017

On the night of 15 July 2016, Turkish people prevented a coup attempt that was staged by the disciples of Fetullah Gülen, who considers himself “imam of the universe”. The coup attempt was a terrorist attack that the Republic of Turkey had never before experienced. Our 250 citizens were martyred, more than 2,000 people were wounded.

Turkish people stood together with great courage against guns, tanks and war planes of the coup plotters. Our citizens showed the world that they would not permit any antidemocratic intervention, and proved that the will of the people, not armed bandits, would shape Turkey’s future.

We pay tribute to our Heroic Martyrs who fell whilst protecting their country and democracy and we express gratitude to our Veterans.
